STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT: REVIEW AND IMPLEMENTATION OF THE ICRG ACTION PLAN.

Abuja, Nigeria

The Global South Dialogue on Economic Crime (GSDEC), in collaboration with the African Center for Governance, Asset Recovery and Sustainable Development, is organising a Stakeholder Engagement to review and implement the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) and the Intergovernmental Action Group Against Money Laundering in West Africa (GIABA) ICRG Action Plan for Nigeria.

The program will hold on 13th June 2024 from 8:30 am – 4:00 pm

The workshop is part of a larger project supported by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) Impact Accelerator Fund and UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), in collaboration with Lancaster University, and the University of Warwick.

The project aims to strengthen Nigeria’s AML/CFT and proceeds of crime implementation framework to support its exit from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) greylist. It will work with specific stakeholders to identify specific gaps in the judicial process, and institutional frameworks, undertake needs assessments, and provide training to enhance institutional effectiveness in tackling money laundering and terrorist financing (ML/TF) cases. The project will also facilitate knowledge sharing to enhance Nigeria’s AML/CFT framework and improve asset recovery and return outcomes.

Additionally, by bringing stakeholders together, this workshop aims to support Nigeria’s goals under SDG 16 and FATF’s Immediate Outcomes (IO) 2, 7, 8, and 9, and facilitate the country’s exit from the greylist.

Expert facilitators, include Juliet Ibekaku-Nwagwu, the Executive Director of African Center, and Postgraduate Researcher, University of Sussex; Dr. Nkechi Azinge-Egbiri, Lecturer, Lancaster University and Dr Joy Malala, Assistant Professor, University of Warwick (both of whom are Executive members of the Global South Dialogue on Economic Crime [GSDEC]). Imuekemhe Emike Jessica, Lecturer, Baze University and Dr Kolawole Ebire, Nile University of Nigeria will also facilitate sessions. Collectively, the facilitators will lead discussions on strengthening Nigeria’s AML/CFT framework.
