Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Assistant
Location: Abuja, Nigeria (with travel as required)
Reports to: Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Officer / Deputy Programme Director
Background: The African Center is a pan-African policy and implementation organization working to strengthen governance, accountability, asset recovery, anti-corruption systems, and sustainable development across Africa. Through research, capacity building, stakeholder engagement, and policy advocacy, the Center supports governments, institutions, and civil society to promote transparency and inclusive development.
To strengthen evidence-based programming, learning, and accountability, The African Center seeks to recruit a Monitoring and Evaluation Assistant to support the design, implementation, and reporting of monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning (MEAL) activities across its projects.
Purpose of the Position: The Monitoring and Evaluation Assistant will support the M&E Officer in the effective implementation of M&E systems across the African Center’s programmes by assisting with data collection, analysis, reporting, and learning. The role will contribute to tracking results, ensuring data quality, supporting donor reporting, and facilitating organizational learning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the implementation of project M&E plans, results frameworks, and indicator tracking tools.
- Assist in routine data collection from program activities, trainings, workshops, and stakeholder engagements.
- Conduct field monitoring visits and verification of reported results where applicable.
- Enter, clean, and manage program data using approved databases and digital data collection platforms.
- Support basic quantitative and qualitative data analysis to inform program performance and decision-making.
- Assist in compiling monitoring data for progress reports, concept notes, and proposals.
- Assist in documenting lessons learned, best practices, and success stories from programs.
- Support learning events, reflection sessions, and adaptive management processes.
- Support feedback and accountability mechanisms, including participant feedback from trainings and events.
- Assist in maintaining stakeholder databases and tracking participation and outreach indicators.
- Provide logistical and administrative support to M&E activities, including trainings and evaluations.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor in support of the African Centre’s objectives.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, statistics, economics, development studies, public policy, or a related field.
- At least 1-2 years of experience in Monitoring and Evaluation, research, or program support roles.
- Experience supporting data collection, surveys, or evaluations in governance, anti-corruption, development, or related sectors is an advantage.
Skills and Competencies:
- Basic knowledge of M&E concepts, results frameworks, indicators, and evaluation methods.
- Experience with data collection tools (e.g., KoboToolbox, SurveyCTO, Google Forms, or similar).
- Ability to use Microsoft Excel and other data management tools for basic analysis and reporting.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to data quality and accuracy.
- Good writing and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team and manage multiple tasks effectively.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Training or certification in Monitoring and Evaluation, MEAL, or Project Management.
- Familiarity with donor reporting requirements and results-based management.
- Knowledge of governance, asset recovery, anti-corruption, or public sector reform programs in Africa.

Duration and Contract Type:
Full-time position (subject to funding), with an initial contract period and possibility of renewal based on performance and project needs.
