Webinar on Recent Anti-money Laundering/Countering the Financing of Terrorism (Aml/Cft) Regulatory and Legal Frameworks In Nigeria: How To Use A Risk-based Approach To Onboard Customers.

The Compliance Institute Of Nigeria (CIN) in collaboration with the African Center for Governance, Asset Recovery and Sustainable Development (The African Center) is set to hold a webinar on Recent Anti-Money Laundering/Countering the Financing Of Terrorism (Aml/Cft) Regulatory And Legal Frameworks In Nigeria: How To Use A Risk-Based Approach To Onboard Customer. This event would be held on Wednesday 5 July 2023 at 5:00-6:00 pm WAT.

In compliance with major international and regional legal frameworks on anti-money laundering/countering the financing of terrorism such as the United Nations Convention Against Corruption, the African Union Convention on Preventing and Combating Corruption, and the Financial Action Task Force Recommendations 2012, Nigeria has passed various legal frameworks and regulations such as the Proceeds of Crime Act 2022, and the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition Act 2022) and the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act 2022, the Central Bank of Nigeria (Customer Due Diligence) Regulations, 2023, Central Bank of Nigeria Guidance Notes on Politically Exposed Persons e.t.c. These laws and regulations incorporated certain key principles in the aml/cft regimes to ensure transparency and accountability in the domestic and international efforts to combat illicit financial flows.

The webinar seeks to highlight the key provisions of these novel aml/cft legal frameworks and regulations, whilst underlining major best practices and challenges so far. It would also give an in-depth insight into how to use a risk-based approach to onboard customers of financial institutions and designated non-financial businesses and professions.
