The African Center for Governance, Asset Recovery, and Sustainable Development participated in the National Action Plan (NAP) IV Development Committee Retreat held from June 24 to 26, 2025, at the Lake Greenfield Hotel in Abuja, Nigeria.
The retreat brought together key civil society actors and government stakeholders to shape Nigeria’s Fourth National Action Plan under the Open Government Partnership (OGP). The African Center played a crucial role in championing the inclusion of an Asset Recovery and Management Commitment in the draft NAP IV, a step toward strengthening Nigeria’s anti-corruption efforts. In addition, we pushed for the inclusion of a Legislative and Judiciary Engagement Commitment, which seeks to mobilize institutional support for OGP commitments and promote greater accountability, transparency, and access to justice in Nigeria.
Asset recovery has remained a key governance priority for the Nigerian government in recent years. Alongside long-term partners such as ANEEJ, we proposed a commitment aimed at improving transparency and accountability in the identification, recovery, and management of stolen assets. By integrating asset recovery into the national action plan, the initiative aims to rebuild public trust and reinforce Nigeria’s international commitments to good governance and financial integrity.
We remain committed to advocating for and supporting the implementation of ambitious commitments that advance transparency, combat corruption, and promote sustainable development across Nigeria and the African continent.
