The African Centre paid a courtesy visit to the President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, to congratulate her on assuming office as the 33rd President of the Nigerian Bar Association. In attendance at the meeting were the Executive Director of the African Center, Juliet Ibekaku-Nwagwu; the General Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association, Afam Okeke, Esq.; and other staff members of both organisations.
The Centre and the Nigerian Bar Association have maintained a productive working relationship over the years, particularly through collaboration with the NBA Anti-Money Laundering Committee (NBA-AMLC). With funding from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), GIZ, and International IDEA, both institutions have partnered on initiatives to strengthen AML/CFT compliance within the legal profession — including the publication of a legal sector risk assessment, regional training sessions, continuing professional development webinars, sensitization activities, and the development of practical compliance resources for legal practitioners. Among these is the NBA AMLC’s official compliance reporting portal (nbaaml.com), which the African Centre developed, and continues to maintain.
The African Center looks forward to further strengthening this relationship and to working closely with the President and her administration to advance professional standards, institutional capacity, regulatory compliance, and other areas of shared interest in the legal profession.
