
The African Center for Governance, Asset Recovery and Sustainable Development has published a new analysis on the UK-based Law, Politics and Sociology Blog examining the outcomes of the June 2026 FATF Plenary.
The article considers the United Kingdom’s assumption of FATF leadership, the removal of Algeria and Namibia from the grey list, and the wider implications for African countries.
The analysis argues that Africa’s objective must go beyond securing removal from the grey list. Countries must build effective and sustainable AML/CFT systems that prevent illicit finance, recover stolen assets, protect legitimate financial flows and strengthen accountable institutions.
