The African Center for Governance, Asset Recovery and Sustainable Development, in collaboration with the Nigerian Bar Association Anti-Money Laundering Committee (NBA-AMLC), will host the October edition of its monthly Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) Webinar Series on Friday, 23 October 2026, at 11:00 AM (WAT).
The webinar, themed “Whistleblowing, Internal Reporting and Professional Protection in AML/CFT Compliance,” will examine the role of whistleblowing and internal reporting mechanisms in preventing financial crimes, strengthening accountability and promoting compliance with AML/CFT obligations within the legal profession.
The session will feature Professor Ernest Ojukwu, SAN, Co-Chair of the NBA Anti-Money Laundering Committee, who will provide insights into the legal, ethical and professional responsibilities of lawyers in identifying and reporting suspicious activities. Discussions will also explore the protection of whistleblowers, the relationship between professional confidentiality and reporting obligations, and practical measures for strengthening internal compliance systems.
The webinar is organised with funding support from the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) under the project, “Tackling Illicit Financial Flows through Asset Recovery, Management, and Strengthening ML/CFT/PF Compliance in Nigeria.” The initiative supports efforts to strengthen institutional capacity, enhance financial integrity and improve compliance with frameworks designed to prevent money laundering, terrorist financing and proliferation financing.
